100 Years Bauhaus – Mies van der Rohe

Since 1865 the Hotel has been a legendary institution in the Engadine, known for its long tradition of extraordinary hospitality and as a meeting place for art and culture.

And, it continues!

New or revived is the orientation towards art as a central theme for the hotel. The famous Kaisersaal has retained its original image after renovation and has lost none of its beauty over the centuries. This hall has a truly enchanting effect on everyone who enters it. High ceilings, sophisticated chandeliers, flooded with light from three sides, the full breakfast buffet looks like a banquet from Roman times. Since 2015, the Kaisersaal has again been operated as an attractive location and offers the ideal location for art happenings such as the Let’s Eat Art Event in 2017 and 2018, a successful concept that inspired art, gourmet and mountain lovers alike.

To mark the occasion, the Hotel Bernina 1865 in collaboration with the Galerie Freitag 18.30 is presenting the year-round exhibition “Mies van der Rohe – 100 Years Bauhaus”, photographs by the Swiss artist Werner Blaser, until 6 January 2020.

The Galerie Freitag 18.30 is located in Aachen, one of Mies van der Rohe’s first workshops, and has a special connection to the outstanding architect not only for this reason.

The Swiss artist, the architect and designer Werner Blaser (*1924), a companion of Mies van der Rohe, has studied his work in detail and published numerous books. This exhibition by the gallery artist presents his black-and-white photographs of Mies van der Rohe’s buildings. Blaser’s photographic art is very much in the background, the view of some of the best-known Mies van der Rohe buildings does not value serenity but proves to be an unobtrusive observer.

Visit our Kaisersaal and the exhibition until 31 March and then daily from 5 May. Simply contact the Guest Service, our staff will be happy to guide you through the room and provide you with information material on the works. Ideally, you can combine visiting the exhibition and having breakfast in one of the loveliest breakfast locations of the entire valley- Our Kaisersaal overlooking Piz Bernina 1865.
