Hiking on historical routes

Did you know that you can hike and walk on sunny routes in Engadine? No?Be surprised of the beautiful  landscape and the inedible light that enlightens the nature in a very unique way. In many places you can hike on historical routes starting in Samedan and the Engadine area.
The Via Engiadina, a ten-day hike through the whole of Engadine, also stops in Samedan. The historic trekking tour takes hikers through the Lower Engadine in 6 stages on the sunny side. You will cross other charming villages with their typical Engadin houses, such as the sgraffito-rich Planta House, which today is a museum of patrician home decor. Even if the tour is advertised as moderate, one traverses continuous track with some steep terrain.
Another example could be the visit of the Pro Natura Park with its glacial mills (Ice Age) in Maloja, followed by a hike on the old Roman road “Maloggin” to Casaccia. In Maloja you can also use art for Segantini and tourism history with Maloja Palace.
The glacier mills in Cavaglia are also very beautiful and impressive. In this context, you can first plan a ride on the Bernina Railway to Bernina Ospizio or Alp Grüm and then hike along the Bernina Railway from Alp Grüm to Cavaglia, learning the history of the old Alpine transport routes and also of the Alpine Reservoir or historical energy sources (the Bernina Railway runs on electricity produced by Lake Bianco).
There is much to discover in the Engadine. At the Bernina Hotel you will find the peace and relaxation you need for your hiking adventures. To recharge your batteries, recover and just let yourself go. The view from the hotel on the Engadine mountains, every day makes you want to walk along new paths!
